Dr. Robert Benson

Executive Manager

Dr. Robert Benson brings 34 years of experience as an educator in K-12 public schools, having most recently served as Superintendent for King George County Public Schools in Virginia since 2012.  As a teacher and leader, Rob began his career in Prince William County, Virginia as an elementary strings teacher and high school orchestra director. In addition to music, Rob also coached basketball and women’s soccer for Woodbridge Senior High School.  In 1995, Rob was appointed assistant principal at Stonewall Jackson High School (now Unity Reed High School) and in 1999 - Principal of C. D. Hylton High School.

 

In 2003, Rob accepted an appointment to be Principal of John McEachern High School in Cobb County, Georgia. for four years prior to being promoted to Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and ultimately Area Assistant Superintendent for Area 1 of the Cobb County School District. In addition to his K-12 career, Rob has served as an adjunct professor for both Longwood University and The College William and Mary since 2017 and 2019 respectively.

 

Rob received his Ph.D. from The University of Southern Mississippi and his M. Ed. in Educational Administration from George Mason University.  He also holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from West Virginia University.  During his tenure as Superintendent, Rob has served on numerous regional and state-wide boards and councils including the Virginia Association of School Superintendents (VASS), UVA K-12 Education Advisory Council, past chair of the Rappahannock Area United Way Government Campaign, and the Smart Beginnings Pre-School Advisory Council.

 

Rob has been the recipient of several awards and distinctions throughout his career, including the Student Council Association’s Virginia School Administrator of the Year in 1998 and the Virginia Association of School Superintendents Region III Superintendent of the Year in 2018.
